Overview
FALASARNA
Our tour commences from Maleme, renowned as the primary landing site of German paratroopers during World War II’s Battle of Crete. The German forces seized the nearby airstrip, facilitating reinforcements’ airlift and leading to a significant loss of life, commemorated at the German War Cemetery atop a nearby hill. Additionally, the Royal Air Force (RAF) Memorial honors fallen airmen from the 30th and 33rd Squadrons.
Next, we’ll visit the Olive Tree Museum of Vouves, adjacent to the Monumental Olive Tree, the oldest living olive tree globally, drawing thousands of visitors annually due to its ecological and historical significance.
Before reaching Falasarna Beach, a stop at the Monastery of Panagia Kyra Gonia Odigirtrias awaits. Situated near the sea, this monastery has a storied past of resistance against various occupiers, evident in its fortified structure and historical artifacts displayed in its museum.
Falasarna Bay, acclaimed as one of Greece’s finest beaches, awaits our final destination. Consisting of five contiguous beaches, Falasarna’s pristine white sands and turquoise waters consistently earn it accolades as one of Crete’s best beaches and among Europe’s top ten.
